The Journal of International Service Annual Symposium

Our annual Symposium is designed to celebrate exemplary interdisciplinary research, policy analysis, and journalism produced across the arena of international affairs, including the work of both professionals in the field and of graduate students.

JIS 2024 Symposium

Last spring, we were pleased to have an afternoon of scholarly research and policy analysis presentations at American University’s School of International Service on April 26, from 4:30 – 6:00 PM.

This event featured a keynote presentation by Ali Vaez, the International Crisis Group’s Iran Project Director and Senior Adviser to the President, on Iran’s position in the context of ongoing regional conflicts in the Middle East.

Other presentations included overviews of research and policy briefs highlighting some of the work of graduate student authors who we have published in the past academic year, featuring Luke Maloney and Narupat Rattanakit. We also featured a presentation by Diana Roy of the Council on Foreign Relations.

In addition to these presentations, this event included insightful discussions, professional development, and networking opportunities. The event took place at the School of International Service building’s Abramson Family Founder’s Room, providing the perfect backdrop for exploring the latest trends in international affairs, as well as a great chance for students to connect with fellow scholars, professionals, and experts in the field.
